How many shows are there?

I don’t know much about country music.  So perhaps some who is can enlighten me about something.  Exactly how many country music award shows are there?

By my conservative guess there is probably one every month.  Actually let’s be conservative and say there is a show once every two months. That is pretty conservative don’t you think?  That means that there are no less than 6 shows per year.  It looks like they must be a big ratings bonanza for the networks because it appears that all 4 major networks have at least one major country awards show aired in prime time each year.   So that begs the next question, how many industry organizations are there that bestow annual awards on their association artists?  I have heard of the CMA’s the Academy of Country Music, and a few others. Are these actually organizations? Do they have members? Who are they? Or is the Organization of Country Music Artists really an organization made up of the vice-president of network programming at CBS and his wife and neighbors?  Also it seems to me, and I don’t watch these shows so I could be completely wrong here.  But doesn’t it seem like the same people are on year after year.  I think there should be a rule that if you’re an artist that has more than 4 CD’s out that you don’t qualify for “Best New Artist”

Remember a few years ago when Jennifer Lopez was a hot commodity? I remember Ricky Martin being all over the TV a few years ago too.  Who is Jo-lo married to again, Marc somebody?  When all of these Pseudo Celebrities stars were aligned and they were hot at the same time wasn’t there a lot of Latin Music Awards shows?  I don’t remember seeing TV ads for any for a few years now.  Is the Academy of Latin Music still handing out awards now that it is not being broadcasts in prime time?  I don’t know, perhaps they hold their annual awards at the Holiday Inn in South Beach these days.

Also what does it say about these award shows that there are so many of them? If you’re an industry insider is the award for “Artist of the Year” bestowed by one organization more desirable then another.  For example in college football the most prestigious award is the Heisman Trophy.  That is the pinnacle of college football for an individual athlete.  It goes without saying that the Heisman trophy is more desirable then say, college football player of the year as awarded by the Ft. Wayne, Indiana chamber of commerce.  However if both awards ceremonies were broadcast on national TV who is to say?

Cant decide

Being a gadget guy I can’t decide if I want this item or not.

This is Amazon.com’s newest toy.  It’s called the Kindle2.  The second generation wireless reader.

It can store up to 1500 books or something like that.  It can have your daily paper delivered to the device every day.  These are things I think are really cool and I would find useful. I image that if I got this device I would be able to read more.  When it first came out this week I really, really wanted to get one.  But I waited a few days.  At a pricey $375 bucks, it’s not exactly an impulse buy.  Then after a few days went by I began to realize the reason that I read less and less these days is just a matter of perception.

It seems like I never, ever get the time to read anymore. I was reading books on a family regular basis for a while there. Then I started reader more and more magazines.  My thinking there was by reading more periodicals and fewer books I could cover more ground, both in breadth of material and quantity too.

However I have found that I am reading less and less all of the time. Then I realized, I am still reading but I am getting most of my information from Blogs and other online media.  I found I go to my computer all day long for news, and even in-depth information.

So now I am thinking that if I bought a Kindle it would be a waste of money.

Nintendo WII, here I come!

My three favorite jazz piano players in no certain order. Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans and Lyle Mays. These guys all had one thing in common, they played with a lot of heart.

Got a chance to play Troon North GOlf Club in North Scottsdale today. I have not played Troon North for quite some time.  They redesigned some of the course and switched around some holes so some golf holes that used to on the Monument Course are now part of the Pinnacle Course. But was a beautiful day and we had a good time.
